Groups

• O+ — The most common type; can donate red cells to all positive types.
• O− — The universal red-cell donor — given in emergencies to anyone.

• A− — A antigens, no Rh factor.
• B+ — B antigens with the Rh factor.
• B− — B antigens, no Rh factor.
• AB+ — Has both A and B antigens plus Rh — the universal plasma recipient.
• AB− — Both A and B antigens, no Rh factor — rare.
