How art and beauty move you
How deeply art and beauty move you — from quiet appreciation to chills and awe, and how much you create yourself.
Based on the Aesthetic Responsiveness Assessment (AReA), a validated self-report measure of how strongly a person responds to art and beauty, developed by Schlotz, Wallot, Omigie, Masucci, Hoelzmann & Vessel (2021). Its three facets are offered here as gentle self-ratings, not a test score. (Aesthetic Responsiveness Assessment (AReA) — Schlotz et al., 2021)
Dimensions
- Aesthetic appreciation (Rarely moved – Often moved) — Scoring high means beauty in art, music, or nature readily catches you and lifts you; scoring low means it tends to pass you by.
- Intense aesthetic experience (Seldom swept away – Deeply absorbed) — Scoring high means art can give you chills, awe, or tears and wholly absorb you; scoring low means you enjoy art without being overwhelmed.
- Creative behaviour (Mostly take it in – Make it myself) — Scoring high means you regularly draw, make, or create as well as enjoy art; scoring low means you mainly take in the art of others.
