The Light Triad is a cluster of three personality traits describing a loving, benevolent orientation towards other people — proposed by Scott Barry Kaufman and colleagues in 2019 as the positive counterpart to the Dark Triad. Measured by the 12-item Light Triad Scale, it comprises Kantianism (treating people as ends in themselves rather than means), Humanism (valuing the inherent dignity and worth of each person), and Faith in Humanity (believing people are fundamentally good). Higher scores tend to track life satisfaction, compassion, and a sense of personal growth. The light and dark triads are distinct dimensions rather than opposite ends of one scale, so a strong light orientation is not merely the absence of a dark one.
The Light Triad Scale (Kaufman, Yaden, Hyde & Tsukayama, 2019) is a validated measure of a benevolent orientation toward others — the positive counterpart to the Dark Triad, built from three facets. (Light Triad Scale (Kaufman et al.))
