Hogwarts Houses are the four student houses of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter novels, first published in 1997. In the stories the magical Sorting Hat assigns students to a house based on which character traits they most value, and fans use the same four houses to self-identify.
