Apology language
Just as people have love languages, Gary Chapman and Jennifer Thomas describe five 'apology languages' — what makes an apology actually land for you, and how you best say sorry.
A popular relationship framework (Gary Chapman & Jennifer Thomas) — a companion idea to the love languages. (Gary Chapman & Jennifer Thomas)
Groups
- Expressing regret — You need to hear a genuine “I'm sorry” and that they feel it.
- Accepting responsibility — You need them to own it — “I was wrong.”
- Making restitution — You need them to make it right — “How can I fix this?”
- Genuinely repenting — You need a real plan to change — “It won't happen again.”
- Requesting forgiveness — You need them to ask — “Will you forgive me?”
